October 2019 Challenge: Klax

Recommended Posts

As September turns to October, it's time for a new Arcade Club game challenge.  This time we will be playing a fast paced puzzle game known as Klax!

Klax is a puzzle game that was developed in 1990 as a coin-operated arcade game designed to be in the same family of games as "Tetris".  In this game, you are confronted with tiles racing towards you in different lanes of a Muggle object called a "conveyor belt".  You control a tile-holder that can collect tiles from ONE lane of the belt at a time.  You can only hold up to five tiles at once, though!  You can free up space, though, by dropping the tiles into the area below.  But that area fills up too - so you want to eliminate tiles by getting three tiles of the same colour in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally (this is called a "Klax").  Each level has a different objective:  maybe you want to create "Klaxs", or maybe you just need to survive a certain number of tiles passing (did I mention that if a tile reaches the end of the conveyor belt and you don't catch it, you lose a life?).  So make sure to follow directions, and good luck!

Fun fact:  Klax was the FINAL game released for the 80s Muggle console called the "Atari 2600", a console whose games may or may not have played a role in Ready Player One.

For this month's challenge, you want to go to THIS LINK to play Klax.  Screencap your best performance (and post it in this thread) by October 31 at 11:59 PM HOL!

-Participation at all will earn you 5 scales.

-If you score 3000 points or higher - or beat Level 1, your screencap will earn you 10 scales instead of 5.

-The top three scores of the month will get extra scales (25, 20, and 15 respectively for the month instead of 5 or 10) as well as special awards!

PS:  Feel free to edit your post throughout the month as you improve your score!
