Lucia Dinapoli Posted January 3, 2022 Report Posted January 3, 2022 One of the highest points of the castle was the Astronomy Tower. The wind blew gently, curving around its open circular deck, the room littered with atlases, telescopes, maps, books and guides on the stars and planets. The Moon provided a cool blue lighting to the place, the golds of the equipment looking silver under its melancholy. What brings you up here so late? Do you have some star studies to catch up on? Lucia Dinapoli Posted January 3, 2022 Author Report Posted January 3, 2022 The Black Lake lapped up against the rugged edges of the cliffs that surrounded the Castle. The Moon was bright and large, highlighting every ripple an shift. Lucia could have sworn she saw her own Mingus swooning over the waves, darting his claws fast in and out the water. 'Perhaps he was playing with Annabelle again?' Although this place was mostly occupied by Astronomy students, Lucia had volunteered to watch over everyone since it was so late in the night. Perfect duties call! She didn't mind all the much. The view more than made up for it. She took a big breath in of the gently moonlit wind, tracing her fingers thoughtfully along the giant metal rings of the telescopic lenses. 'I wonder what the stars are going to predict for me this year...' 5 scales awarded Quote
Emelio Black Posted January 3, 2022 Report Posted January 3, 2022 Emelio was in class. Astronomy to be exact. She had just finished her star charts when the rest of the students started to pack up and leave. The wind blew, causing her papers to ruffle; she didn't mind at all. This type of wind was peaceful and calm. The night, eerie and beautiful. A stillness that wasn't full of longing or unspoken words of akwardness, but of a kind of Magic that wasn't made by wand waving or incantations; magic that only the people who don't mind sitting alone at night for the quiet would be able to understand. As another wave of soft wind blew, Emelio noticed a familiar head of hair by a telescope. Sidding over to the dark shadow that belong to her friend, Lucia, she felt a warm happiness inside of her. "Hello! What brings you here at this hour?" 5 scales awarded Quote
Lucia Dinapoli Posted January 4, 2022 Author Report Posted January 4, 2022 "Why hello there," Lucia smiled seeing her younger friend approaching, hands full of homework, "Prefect duties. I volunteered since I like it up here so much. You get much done?" Lucia gestured to Emilio's work, "I'm not great at Astronomy, but I find it really interesting. Really beautiful. I just wish all the information would stay in my brain rather than go in one ear and out the other." She chuckled. 5 scales awarded You've found Snake Egg 9! Cole Thronheart Posted January 5, 2022 Report Posted January 5, 2022 Cole stood at the top of the Astronomy Tower, hands gripping the cold railing as she looked out onto the Grounds of Hogwarts. The moon shinning of the Black Lake. The Sky was dark with tiny little specs of light scattering all over. She could see the Phoenix Constellation shinning bright. The tower was one of her favorite places to go and just unwind. A place to be alone and think as she star gazed. 5 scales awarded Quote
Emelio Black Posted January 8, 2022 Report Posted January 8, 2022 Emelio smiled back at Lucia. "Honestly, astronomy is a lot easier than I thought it would be. I've actually just finished the December star chart." She put her books and charts in her bag, then laughed at Lucia's comment. "That's how I feel with History of Magic. Not to be rude to Professor Binns, but it's a miracle I even manage to stay awake!" As she zipped up her bag, Emelio noticed another person standing by the railing. "I wonder who that is?" She asked Lucia. "Hi!" Feeling a sudden urge of bravery, she waved to the other person. "What's your name?" 5 scales awarded Quote
Prof. Will Lestrange Posted January 12, 2022 Report Posted January 12, 2022 Will headed over to the Astronomy Tower that night hoping that the stars would give him some insight into the future. Once he arrived, he took in the scene - noting that Lucia was doing a good job watching over the students up at the tower. He then went to a telescope and started to deeply concentrate on what he saw, even if the stars didn't seem interested in sharing their secrets with him yet! 5 scales awarded Quote
Aurelia West Posted January 13, 2022 Report Posted January 13, 2022 As Aure trudged their way up the long staircases, they hastily blew hair out of their eyes and reminded themself why they were going there. They weren't taking Astronomy at the moment, but as Prof. Rorey's dedicated assistant, they figured they'd hang out for a while and help answer any questions. As they neared the top of the steps, their hesitation turned to excitement. There weren't too many places around the school that they found so immensely relaxing, even with all the students milling about. The views were spectacular and Aure found that whenever they made it up to the top of the tower, they felt at peace. Taking quick inventory of who was around, they smiled to see Emelio and Lucia chatting quietly. Cole looked deep in thought, as did Prof. Will, so Aure was more than content to park themself next to a large telescope and see if anyone needed help. It really was a great time at night to see several of their favorite constellations. Idly, they wondered what the centaurs believed this particular array of stars to mean. They made a mental note to ask next time they found themself in the Forbidden Forest, though admittedly that was a rarity. Aure had only brought the bare necessities to this tower watch, but they did have a spare bit of parchment on hand. Unearthing it from their pack, they began to doodle what they saw, letting themself scrawl untidy notes around the perimeter. 5 scales awarded Quote
Prof. Will Lestrange Posted January 13, 2022 Report Posted January 13, 2022 (NOTE: The constellations visible are taken from HERE in Scotland at a time of 1 AM HOL on January 13, 2022.) Paying attention to the sky, Will first looked for his favourite constellation, Cassiopeia - and was pleased to find it visible, even though it was rotated a bit from the 'W' he recognized on his monogram. Nearby, he saw a kite, a triangle, and a pentagon from various constellations that he wasn't sure of, and tried to think about what they mean. He then noticed that Aure had also written notes on the sky and turned to exchange reflections on the sky with them. Will turned to them and asked: "Are you seeing the same things as I am tonight? And are there questions about these stars that I can take down to the centaurs tomorrow morning for you?" 5 scales awarded Quote
Emily Spencer Posted January 31, 2022 Report Posted January 31, 2022 Emily was a solitary creature by nature, and needed a bit of time to herself now and then for the simple pleasure of being alone. Mind you, she had a close group of friends whose company she enjoyed immensely, but every now and then, a bit of alone time was needed to recharge. Armed with a copy of Numerology and Grammatica, she headed up the stairs and found herself a quiet niche in a hidden corner. She was well aware that her choice of reading and her solitary ways got her labeled as odd by more than a few, but she honestly did not care. Being different had been her lot thus far in life, and she saw no reason to worry about it now. It is, what it was and no use giving it any further thought. Her reading soon lulled her to sleep, and Emily felt her eyelids growing heavy. With a contented sigh, she laid the book aside and lay back with fingers interlaced behind her head. She stared up at the stars, allowing herself to get lost in a pleasant daydream of far-away places and impossible adventures. 5 scales awarded Quote
