December 2019 Game Challenge: Missile Command

WARNING!!!  This month’s game features significantly more intense flashing lights than most other games we have played in the Arcade Club.  Bright, multicoloured flashing lights feature throughout gameplay and the “THE END” screen after you lose your last city is particularly intense, with a large, rapidly flashing light taking over the entire screen.

Hard to imagine that it's time for the final challenge of the calendar year and the decade!  This time, we'll play another Atari game that represented its era well... Missile Command!

 

Missile Command was a 1980 game that was just ahead of the golden age of arcades.  But it represents the concerns American Muggles had in the 1980s very well!  This is because the gameplay is a very crude simulation of Muggle warfare.  In this game, you start out with six cities and three bases.  Enemy objects, called 'missiles', race towards your cities and bases like light coming out of a wand - but with much more power!   Fortunately, your bases contain missiles of your own; with them, you can create explosions that will destroy enemy missiles nearby before they can cause any damage.  Otherwise, enemy missiles can hit your cities (each city is destroyed with a single hit) or bases (which will preclude you from firing missiles out of any hit bases).  Oh, and did I mention you only have a limited number of missiles?  When you outlast all of the missiles in a stage, though, your bases will get replenished!  But a new round awaits, with a fresh crop of faster enemy missiles... along with other flying enemies to boot!  Your immediate reaction when playing this game will probably be relief, as in "it's a good thing the Death Eaters didn't have access to these types of Muggle weapons in the eighties or nineties!"

 

For this month's challenge, you want to go to THIS LINK to play Missile Command.  Screencap your best performance (and post it in this thread) by December 31 at 11:59 PM HOL!  

-Participation at all will earn you 5 scales.

-If you score 500 points or higher - or beat the first stage, your screencap will earn you 10 scales instead of 5.

-The top three scores of the month will get extra scales (25, 20, and 15 respectively for the month instead of 5 or 10) as well as special awards!

PS:  Feel free to edit your post throughout the month as you improve your score!
