  1. Yup! The highest tile that you send in by June 30th will count.
  2. Sometimes, the words 'villain' and 'hero' are in the eyes of the beholder; even if the reader/viewer is expected to support one side, it's often the case that the other side has valid points! In no fewer than 50 words, discuss a time when you think a designated hero is really the villain, or when a designated villain is really a hero. This is worth 10 emerald shards; you get to choose whether they go to the Heroes or the Villains! Prompt provided by Will Lestrange
  3. Since time immemorial, each hero or villain has always had some master plan at the back of their mind, influencing their decisions and behaviour as they try to see it through. It might be something as specific as revenge against one particular individual or just a guiding principle that is at the heart of every action they take. Some things to consider are what your hero or villain of choice hopes to achieve, why they wish to do so, and what measures they have or will put in place to get the end result. Write a minimum of 100 words. Post your master plan below to earn 15 emerald shards for either the Heroes or the Villains (it's entirely up to you!). Prompt provided by Prof. Amy Lupin
  4. Here is a Disney Heroes and Villains 2048! To play, simply use your arrow keys to move the tiles (or swipe if you're using a phone.) When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one and the number changes to the sum of the two original tiles (i.e. two "4" tiles becomes one "8" tile!) For 5 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 64 tile. For 10 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 128 tile. For 15 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 256 tile. For 20 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 512 tile. For 25 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 1024 tile. For 30 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 2048 tile. For 35 emerald shards, send a screenshot with a 4096 tile. But here's the catch... The emerald shards will go to the side of whoever is depicted on the tile! 2048 created by Arianna Stonewater E-mail your screenshot to slytherin.emeraldcup [at] gmail.com (Subject: "Era 5 - 2048"). Tiles received: Prof. Tarma Amelia Black - 1024 Will Lestrange - 1024 Prof. Amy Lupin - 4096 Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis - 1024 Adaleine Shuster - 512 Romilda Jones
  5. Courtesy of Will Lestrange Both heroes and villains have music all to their own! If you go to THIS LINK, you will hear ten musical selections from different eras, alternating between heroic and villainous pieces. For each selection, give the title and artist (the original composer in the case of classical music) for each piece for 1 emerald shard each, but there's a twist! All shards for the ODD numbered pieces (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9) will go to the Heroes. All shards for the EVEN numbered pieces (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10) will go to the Villains. E-mail your solution to slytherin.emeraldcup [at] gmail.com (Subject: "Era 5 - Music") to earn up to 20 total emerald shards! NOTE: As an added hint, I am giving the year of composition for each of the pieces. 1) 1880 2) 1870 3) 1984 4) 1981 5) sometime before 1365 6) likely 1461 or 1483 7) 2017 8) 2019 9) 2011 10) 2000

  10. All nine characters do not have to be in the same universe. Yes, anime is included in "etc."
  11. In some of the stories we've been exposed to, villains actually started out as one of the good guys but due to certain circumstances, they found themselves turning to the dark side (think Anakin Skywalker). On the other side of the coin, sometimes villains have a change of heart and go to great lengths to redeem themselves (Severus Snape is a good example of that). What would it take for you to switch sides, and become more aligned with villainy or heroism? Feel free to answer honestly or humorously. Your answer should be at least 5 sentences in length in order to earn 5 emerald shards, which will be going to the Heroes. Prompt provided by Prof. Amy Lupin
  12. In Dungeons & Dragons, Alignment is used to categorize characters based on their moral and ethical perspectives. Most versions use two axes: "Law vs Chaos" and "Good vs Evil." Along with "Neutral," this gives nine possible alignments. This website provides some more information about alignment. Here is an example of an Alignment Chart in the Harry Potter universe: (Click for a larger image) Fill out your own Alignment Chart! Choose nine characters from any book, movie, comic, etc. that fit each alignment. Please limit yourself to only one character from Harry Potter. You must include a list with a sentence or two explaining each of your nine selections. You may also create a visual representation with the following Alignment Chart or make your own. Any images must be kept to a maximum size of 600x600 pixels. Lawful Good | Neutral Good | Chaotic Good Lawful Neutral | True Neutral | Chaotic Neutral Lawful Evil | Neutral Evil | Chaotic Evil After you post your completed Alignment Chart below, you will find out if your 20 emerald shards will align with the Heroes or the Villains.

  15. I sent my cousin a "Happy Birthday" sticker via LINE (the messaging app that everyone in Taiwan uses) and he replied with a sticker that said "3Q." "Three-Q?" I thought. It took me a few minutes, but then I finally got it. "Three" in Mandarin Chinese is "san," so "san-Q" sounds like "Thank you." Another one I like is 881. That is "ba-ba-yi" in Chinese. When it is said quickly, it sounds like "bye-byeeeeeeee." Do you have any fun in translation stories?

  20. Image shows a sword in a stone in the woods From the beginning of time, there have been powerful weapons that have changed hands many times. Are there any weapons that you'll like to get your hands on? How do you feel about inheriting a weapon or taking a weapon from someone you defeated? Is it preferable for you to make your own weapon or should you find a specialist to craft the weapon for you? Each post is worth 5 emerald shards for the Villains. You may post up to three times for a maximum of 15 emerald shards. Your post must be at least five sentences in length and you cannot post back to back. Try to respond to what others have posted!
  21. In the Star Wars universe, lightsabers are special. A Force sensitive person gathers crystals that produce different colored blades. Each color represents certain qualities. Meaning of blade colors (crystals): Blue hue blade users use the Force on a physical level, mostly used by users from the light side. Green hue blade users prefer to reflect on the mysteries of the Force and fight the dark side at its heart. Yellow hue blade users honor their skills in a balance of combat and scholarly pursuits. Red hue blades come from synthetic crystals and their users along with orange and magenta blades favor the dark side. blades come from synthetic crystals and their users along with orange and magenta blades favor the dark side. Lightsaber crystals of different hues could also be used in the same lightsaber to make a new blade color. For example, a purple blade is made from red and blue crystals. Purple represents uncertainty, reconstruction, and recovery which makes purple blade users not fully stable and preferring isolation but also have high energy, sympathy, compassion, and the relentless determination to accomplish one's goals. Purple blade users share an affinity with both the light and dark side of the Force. The crystal represents traits, purpose, and views, while the hilt compliments the crystal (by channeling) and represents a fighting style. Each force sensitive person assembles their own hilt. There are no two hilts the same. Now, it is time for you to build your own lightsaber! Website: http://www.saberparts.com (Left arrow zooms out completely) Guides that might help you to complete the task (open then click to enlarge): Choosing components: Link to Guide Customizing components: Link to Guide Adding and changing blade color: Link to Guide Removing components: Link to Guide Double sided saber: Link to Guide Taking a screenshot: Link to Guide Uploading and posting a screenshot: Link to Guide Share your finished lightsaber along with a brief description. Consider discussing the following questions: - What is the color of your crystal? - What does your crystal stand for? - What is your hilt made of? - How many parts are in your hilt? - Why are certain parts present? - Which side does your saber represent? If the website is not functional for you, you may either draw your own lightsaber or write out a description in 100 or more words. Please keep all images to a maximum size of 600x600 pixels. This task is worth 15 emerald shards. However, the Force will be determining whether the emerald shards go to the Heroes or Villains. You will only find out after you have posted your lightsaber.
